What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint an experienced Chemistry teacher to join our diverse and dynamic Science Faculty, who is passionate about developing the curriculum to inspire the next generation of scientists.

What the school offers its staff

The Science Faculty at Ashmole Academy has a well-established collaborative team, who are committed to fostering a curiosity in our students for science in the world around us. Our science curriculum encourages students to think like scientists whilst developing their knowledge and skills as we seek to inspire the next generation of science specialists.

Chemistry is a popular subject within the Science Faculty and has a proven track record of high academic outcomes at GCSE and A level. Many of our Chemistry students go on to study at Russel Group universities. As Head of Chemistry you will work closely with the Head of Biology, Head of Physics and Head of Psychology to create a culture of excellence, aspiration and care within the Science Faculty.

Our Science team constantly contributes towards pedagogical improvements across the school and they strive to offer students an engaging curriculum. This is complemented by a strong extra-curricular provision and Scholar’s Programme.

In 2024, at GCSE almost two thirds of our separate science students achieved at least a Grade 8, and almost 30% achieved a Grade 9. Approximately three quarters of our combined science students achieved a grade 5 or above. At A-Level, approximately 60% of students achieved A*-B and 28% achieved A*-A.

Ashmole Academy is a high performing and heavily oversubscribed local comprehensive school in North London, situated near Southgate Underground Station. Ashmole Academy is ranked as one of the most successful secondary schools in the country. In the Sunday Times Schools Guide 2025, we are recognised as the second highest riser school, climbing 143 places, and now ranked 193rd. The school prides itself on maintaining a high level of mutual respect between students and all staff. We celebrate diversity and have been awarded a Gold Equalities Award as a recognition of our commitment to equality.
