We are seeking an outstanding practitioner with appropriate ambition to join the Extended Leadership Team as Head of Computing. You will be given an excellent grounding for future Senior Team roles in a unique educational setting.

James Brindley is a stand-alone Academy based in a wide variety of locations across the City of Birmingham. In the course of a school year we educate over 3,000 young people for periods ranging from a few days in hospital to several years in one of our teaching centres. The majority of our young people have complex medical needs and many have been out of education for a significant period of time prior to joining the Academy. We offer a full-time curriculum to young people from EYFS to KS5 and our aim is always to enable them to ‘close the gap’ and to make outstanding progress during the time they are with us.

This is an excellent time to join James Brindley as the Academy continues to implement a revised strategic vision developed by staff, trustees and other stakeholders.

We are looking for a Head of Computing with Academy wide responsibility. The role necessitates a reduced teaching timetable to reflect the need to work across a multi-sited school. The initial location will be at our Parkway Centre, a provision for pupils with a SEMH needs in KS4 and candidates must be willing to teach within any of our settings. There are currently 5 permanent members of staff teaching Computing at KS3, KS4 and KS5 for some or all of their time and in addition we employ Support tutors to deliver most of the home tuition.

Many of our Young People s have gaps in their education and we strive to implement creative teaching strategies to reduce the impact of educational disadvantage, enabling all our Young People to access learning and make expected progress. We are looking for resilient and dynamic teacher who can inspire and support young people to thrive. You should be able to develop the needs of the whole child and be committed to enabling all young people to achieve their potential. You should have successful experience of leadership and management of staff teams and be able to highlight how you engendered collaborative working and collective accountability for progress and pupil outcomes.
