Head of Department for History or History with Politics job summary

Due to career progression of the current post holder we are seeking an exceptional candidate to become the new Head of Department for History. This is a prime opportunity for a well-qualified and committed teacher to make significant contributions to the strategic direction and development of a highly successful department. This exciting role offers opportunities for progression and would suit an aspiring middle leader who would like to further develop their career or an experienced teacher. A full induction and CPD support programme will be made available to the successful candidate.

Our current Head of Department also has responsibility for Politics at A level. The ability to offer this additional expertise would be desirable, but not essential. If an appointment of Head of History and Politics was made, this would be offered at TLR 2C.

Commitment to safeguarding

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and as this post is considered to be a ‘regulated activity’, a check through the Disclosure and Barring Service, including the children’s barred list. The school may carry out online searches for shortlisted candidates. Successful applicants must comply with policies relating to safeguarding & child protection.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The School is permitted to ask applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are “spent” unless they are “protected” under the DBS filtering rules, see https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dbs-filtering-guidance).
