Head of Department - PSHE & Citizenship job summary
For September 2022 we wish to appoint a Head of PSHE and Citizenship who is an outstanding leader and teacher with the ambition and drive to take PSHE teaching at The King’s School to the next stage in its development. The King’s School has maintained an excellent reputation for the delivery of high quality PSHE and Citizenship for a number of years, often leading new initiatives in the East Devon area and delivering training more widely. The subject is highly valued at the school, in our community, and especially by our students. The Head of PSHE and Citizenship has a critical role in responding to the emotional health and well-being of our students. The successful candidate will lead the delivery and regular review of an engaging curriculum which is age-appropriate, safe, and serves the needs of our community. The role requires you to liaise with the Careers Co-ordinator and pastoral team to ensure the aspirations and needs of all students are met within the curriculum. You will have a crucial role in listening to students' opinions via the Teen Health group and Diversity Group, both of which have received national and local awards.
We are looking for someone who can be creative, dynamic, and is able to communicate their passion for the subject to the whole range of students and staff. You will need to be a talented and capable classroom practitioner, skilled in managing challenging topics such as relationship education, and be adept at creating a comfortable environment for all to thrive. The successful candidate will also be a team player who can communicate an enthusiasm and depth of subject knowledge using a student-centred approach.
Commitment to safeguarding
When applying for the role, it is important that you refer to the school's Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and the DBS Disclosure Policy, which can be found on our website (About Us – Policy Documents). We are committed to safeguarding the welfare of students so all staff are enhanced DBS checked.
