Do you have the confidence to lead and inspire the next generation of athletes?

Are you committed to fostering a culture of curiosity and confidence in sports and physical education?

If so, Thomas Deacon Academy is looking for you!

Your role:

As the Head of Sports and PE at Thomas Deacon Academy, you will provide professional leadership and management for the PE department, ensuring high-quality teaching, effective use of resources, and improved standards of learning and achievement for all students. You will be accountable for leading, managing, and developing all aspects of educational provision within the PE department, raising standards, and improving outcomes for all learners. You will oversee the development and delivery of a broad, balanced, and differentiated PE curriculum, manage and deploy staff and resources effectively, and support the enrichment lead in developing an engaging enrichment program across the academy. Additionally, you will lead the Duke of Edinburgh Award program and provide support for the DofE coordinator.

You should have Qualified Teacher Status and be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills, effective communication abilities, and a commitment to continuous professional development. You should be able to inspire confidence in both staff and students, work effectively under pressure, and adapt to changing circumstances.

About us:

Our Sports and PE department offers extensive facilities, including a weights fitness suite, a cardio-vascular and functional weights fitness suite, a six-court sports hall, cricket pitches with a pavilion, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) with netball courts, and a full-sized all-weather pitch. We offer a wide range of after-school and lunchtime enrichment activities, promoting both participation and competition. We are commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive environment ensuring that all students can find a sport they enjoy and feel confident in, contributing to their overall physical and mental well-being.

The Academy’s recent Ofsted inspection in November 2024 noted that “pupils benefit from a welcoming environment where diversity is celebrated. They enjoy celebrating each other’s differences and participating in cultural activities. The school provides an ambitious curriculum that ensures pupils develop a strong foundation of knowledge and skills from Year 3 through to Year 13, preparing them well for their next stage of education or employment. The Ofsted inspection rated all areas, including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and sixth-form provision, as 'Good'”.

At Thomas Deacon Academy, we believe in the power of courtesy, commitment, compassion, courage, curiosity, and confidence. These values are at the heart of everything we do, and we are looking for someone who embodies them in their work.
