Head of Department - Technology job summary

An opportunity has arisen for the Academy to appoint a candidate to the post of Head of Department – Technology. Working closely alongside the Head of Food and Nutrition, you would have direct responsibility for Product Design, Resistant Materials and Construction within the department.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach Technology across the ability and age range, KS3, KS4, KS5. You will have had previous successful experience of raising standards of attainment and levels of progress through your teaching of Technology, ideally with a specialism of Construction and Product Design.
This post offers an ideal opportunity for a person who would like to move into a leadership and management post to develop the Technology department, whilst reviewing work plans, curriculum offer, learning, teaching, attainment and progress of current cohorts of students.
The right candidate will need to possess a real commitment to delivering high standards for students and to the professional development of staff. A creative leader who is passionate about the subject and who has the ability to model outstanding practice, demonstrate innovative and inspirational methods of teaching whilst also being able to motivate and inspire both teachers and students will thrive in this position.
The successful candidate will be responsible for proactively mentoring, developing, supporting and leading a department of Technology teachers and support staff with varying levels of experience and will be responsible for the delivery of outstanding and engaging lessons across all year groups and for the effective assessment of students against learning outcomes to ensure effective progress is made.
You will also have high expectations of pupil behaviour and will be able to establish a consistent level of student discipline through your team, maintaining productive and respectful relationships with students.

Quarrydale is a mixed 11-18 academy of around 1100 pupils, with approximately 130 sixth formers. We are situated in the town of Sutton-in-Ashfield, which is located between Sherwood Forest, the peak district and the City of Nottingham.
