Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for you to apply your passion for the creation and development of technology at The Highcrest Academy.

We seek an inspirational teacher to take our successful Design Technology department to its next stage of development. We believe that our Heads of Department have a pivotal role in inspiring and challenging pupils of every ability in every year to raise their academic standards, in promoting their confidence and self-esteem, and in securing improving GCSE and post-16 results year on year.

Highcrest has a bespoke approach to the curriculum. As well as offering academic level qualifications (A Levels), we also pride ourselves on our vocational curriculum (including qualifications with OCR, BTEC and NCFE). You will be at the forefront of exploring and developing creative opportunities for our pupils within the world of technology. We currently offer Construction, Food Tec, Fashion (Textiles), and Rocket Science, as well as having a specialist Engineering workshop offering a range of qualifications in this field. In addition, we plan to open our Hair and Beauty salon in the next academic year. We intend to expand this further to work with lead manufacturers and designers and the potential opportunity to work with Formula E.

You will join a leading department with modern facilities, that produces improving outcomes in a heavily oversubscribed academy. The department is staffed with experienced teachers with a shared vision and commitment to continuous school improvement.

Just 30 minutes by train from Central London, The Highcrest Academy is the first All Ability Academy in the county of Buckinghamshire. It is culturally diverse and a vibrant school making it a fantastic place to teach. We have some students who will need all your support and yet have also featured in the national Ofsted report for providing challenge to the most able.

There are approximately 1,000 students on roll, which includes the Sixth Form. A new building programme, just completed, comprises a brand-new Sixth Form Centre, sports facilities including a gym, and a new restaurant and coffee shop for both students and staff. There is also the possibility of shared living accommodation.

If you are a team player, passionate about education and social mobility and want to be a pivotal part of improving opportunities for the students of our local community and increasing their learning experiences, then The Highcrest Academy could be the school for you; a thriving school in the heart of the community, with free on-site parking, staff recognition schemes and free gym to counter the “Friday Biscuits” and on-site coffee shop!
