Alcester Grammar School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Head of Drama to lead our thriving department. This is a full-time position with a start date from Easter or September, offering a salary on the MPS/UPS scale and TLR 2b.

As Head of Drama, you will oversee a department that inspires students through a diverse curriculum, with students in Years 7-9 receiving weekly Drama lessons and strong participation at GCSE and A level. With access to a large theatre space and investment in a new Drama classroom/base between now and September, you will play a key role in designing and shaping the future of Drama at AGS.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Drama Department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning experiences.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the Drama curriculum for Years 7-11, including GCSE and A level following the Edexcel Pearson specifications.
  • Foster a thriving Drama department where students consistently achieve healthy participation numbers.
  • Build and maintain a Drama 'Toolbox' for Year 7, focusing on creating, performing, and responding skills.
  • Enhance students' creative imagination and characterisation in Year 8, utilising devising and stimuli.
  • Develop longer project work for Year 9, preparing students for GCSE Drama.
  • Making best use of the school's large theatre space and dance studio, and contributing to the design and shaping of a new Drama classroom/base.
  • Encourage participation in extra-curricular productions, maintaining and building upon the department's strong offering.
  • Collaborate with a Year 14 student employed as a Drama Technician.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training:

  • Qualified teacher status.
  • Evidence of professional development relevant to this role.

Experience:

  • Successful teaching experience in Drama, with a track record of delivering outstanding student outcomes.
  • Experience in leading or managing a department is desirable.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of Drama curriculum and Edexcel Pearson specifications.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and engage students in a variety of dramatic styles and forms.

Personal Qualities:

  • High expectations for all students and a commitment to bringing out the best in everyone.
  • Commitment to upholding and promoting the ethos and values of Alcester Grammar School.
