What skills and experience we're looking for

As a newly appointed Head of Department you enjoy a great deal of autonomy in designing an appropriate curriculum that will inspire students from Key Stage Three through to Drama at GCSE and Theatre Studies at A Level. You will be the main specialist within a small team.

You will find a large number of our students love Drama and enjoy the curriculum. Extra curricular clubs are well attended and students take pride in the quality of their performances. The post holder will work closely with our experienced Director of Music on all musicals.

Responsibilities for all Heads of Department at the School

•Completing relevant quality assurance across the team including engaging with student voice.

  • Line Management of colleagues and contributing to the performance management process.
  • Deliver high quality teaching
  • Complete duty activities that support the smooth running of the school.
  • Organising appropriate fieldtrips and enrichment activities

Our Head of Drama will be responsible for all of our curriculum and extra-curricular provision. Students access Drama lessons regularly throughout their time at the school and the post is responsible for provision from our junior department through to A Level students.

The subject is taught at GCSE and A Level with a track record of academic success. You will ensure that this record continues along with an active engagement in further growing numbers.

A key aspect of the role will be ensuring that students benefit from a full extra-curricular provision which includes whole school musicals.

What the school offers its staff

Thank you for your interest in joining The King’s (The Cathedral) School at this exciting time. A promotion for our current postholder has created a superb opportunity for a suitably talented, energetic and passionate leader to apply for the role of Head of Drama.

The King’s (The Cathedral) School enjoys a very strong reputation both within the city and the local region. As one of a small number of state schools with close links to their local Cathedral, our distinct Christian culture lies at the heart of the school. We are a single academy Trust, located close to the city centre of Peterborough, educating students from the age of seven to eighteen.

We are rightly proud of our student’s academic achievements (progress is typically in the top 5% nationally for GCSE) but the educational philosophy at the school is far broader with students encouraged to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Drama plays a significant part of this offering. We are proud of our reputation where each year the school delivers a high quality musical performance. In recent years students have enjoyed performing in Chicago, Sister Act and School of Rock!

Commitment to safeguarding

The King’s (The Cathedral) School fully recognises the responsibility it has under section 175 of the Education
Act 2002 (as amended), the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 (as amended) and Education
and Training (Welfare of Children) Act, 2021 to have arrangements in place to safeguard and promote the
welfare of children.
