The Park Community School was founded in 1910 and was first known as Barnstaple Grammar School. The school took its current name in 1973 when it became a comprehensive. Since then, the school has grown and has an enviable reputation within the local community. A new headteacher was appointed in September 2015 and with the new leadership came a renewed focus on staff development and Teaching and Learning. The school is oversubscribed for the rising year 7, this is a true reflection of the recent developments and school journey. The school is organised around a traditional House system, comprising of 5 houses, each with two tutor groups per year. The house system promotes strong pastoral care balanced with a healthy level of competition. The Park Community School’s main aim is to be the best educational facility in Devon and to earn itself a national reputation of excellence. To do this, the secondary school strives to ensure that every child discovers their passion for learning and understands that they can achieve their potential. The school aims to be a challenging, stimulating and supportive environment that allows each student to become a confident, resilient and adaptable learner. Ofsted report: "Pupils are aware of their responsibilities as citizens and demonstrate this by their involvement in the life of the school." "The behavior of pupils is good.
