Head of EBACC job summary
Beacon Academy is seeking an ambitious and dynamic Head of EBACC to provide strategic leadership and management for our core EBACC subjects: Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), Geography, History, and Religious Studies. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment, and driving excellence in student outcomes across these disciplines. Geography specialism is desirable but not essential.
IN RELATION TO THE STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS
This appointment is subject to the current conditions of employment of teachers contained in the Academy Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document, the Education Act 1997, the required standards for Qualified Teacher Status, other current educational legislation and the academy’s articles of government.
This job description may be amended at any time following discussions between the Principal and member of staff, and will be reviewed annually.
In addition to the requirements of a class teacher (attached to this document), areas of responsibility and key tasks: -
Purpose of the post
To provide strategic leadership and management of the EBacc subjects (MFL, Geography, History, and Religious Studies), ensuring the delivery of a broad, balanced, and rigorous curriculum that maximizes student achievement and promotes a love of learning.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement a strategic vision for the EBacc subjects, aligned with the school's overall aims and objectives.
Lead the development and implementation of curriculum policies and procedures that ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the EBacc curriculum, and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
Stay abreast of national developments and best practices in EBacc subject areas.
Subject Leadership and Management:
Line manage and support subject leaders in MFL, Geography, History, and Religious Studies.
Provide guidance and support to subject leaders in curriculum planning, assessment, and resource management.
Foster a collaborative and supportive working environment within the EBacc team.
Ensure effective communication and collaboration between EBacc subjects and other departments.
Teaching, Learning, and Assessment:
Ensure the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning across the EBacc subjects.
Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning through lesson observations, work scrutiny, and data analysis.
Lead the development and implementation of effective assessment practices.
Analyse student performance data and implement strategies to improve student outcomes.
Staff Development
Identify and address the professional development needs of EBacc staff.
Provide coaching and mentoring to subject leaders and teachers.
Organise and deliver staff training on curriculum development, teaching strategies, and assessment practices.
Student Outcomes
Set ambitious targets for student achievement in EBacc subjects.
Monitor and track student progress, and implement interventions to support students at risk of underachievement.
Promote a culture of high expectations and achievement.
Resource Management
Manage the EBacc budget effectively, ensuring that resources are allocated to support curriculum delivery and student achievement.
Ensure that EBacc resources are up-to-date and relevant.
Extended Senior Leadership
Rationale: To be part of the extended Senior Leadership Team.
Attend senior leadership team meetings where requested.
Report to the Local Governing Body
Complete x1 period of ‘On Tour’ weekly.
Complete x1 lunchtime duty.
Any other duties which may arise during the course of work and as authorised by the Principal or membership of the Senior Leadership Team. Such duties will be commensurate with the general level of this post and will be subject to the skills and abilities of the post holder.
