Winchcombe School (part of the Balcarras Trust) is a successful and thriving comprehensive academy for students aged 11 to 16 years. We are a close-knit and caring school, a smaller than average secondary school, set in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Winchcombe itself is an attractive small historic town approximately 7 miles from Cheltenham Spa and with regular bus links.

Our students’ attitudes to learning are positive and they participate willingly and with interest in school life. We are a vibrant and forward-thinking school with well-established community links and strong partnerships with parents. We strive to develop character, resilience and ambition in our students, wanting to empower them to reach their full potential.

The School is rated ‘good’ by Ofsted (March 2022); the inspection team praised our high standards, the calm and purposeful atmosphere and our professional development for staff.

Our staff also enjoy being part of a supportive community and feel valued for the part they play in the school; we currently have around 80 members of staff in leadership, teaching, support, pastoral, admin and premises roles.

Staff Professional Development and Welfare: Our Senior Leadership Team is committed to supporting professional development and where budget allows, will fund training courses to help staff complete their job in a more effective manner. Our links to Balcarras and Leckhampton Schools enable teaching staff to collaborate with colleagues across the Trust to share best practice.
