Head of English job summary
An outstanding opportunity has arisen to work in Gloucestershire’s largest comprehensive school.
We wish to appoint a Head of English to develop and lead a lively and enthusiastic English Department consisting of 16 colleagues, with 2 colleagues holding TLR posts as KS3 and KS4 leads.
The English department is one of the largest and most important departments in the school; your work will have an impact throughout the school and you will have a highly influential role.
The English team is very strong and supportive. To lead our team, we are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner who has experience of teaching across all three key stages and has a genuine love of literature, who is able to inspire our team and lead them forward.
We have recently redesigned our curriculum, investing in a wealth of resources to inspire a love of learning and literature. We are proud of our knowledge-rich, resource-rich curriculum with topics such as Victorian Gothic, ‘right and wrong’ in fiction and protest poetry alongside Shakespeare. However, as an experienced professional, leading one of the largest English departments in the country you will have a high degree of autonomy to establish a curriculum which leads to success in public exams whilst ensuring that our students love English and become critical readers, confident writers, and successful speakers
