Head of English Department job summary
We are seeking to appoint an inspiring, ambitious and enthusiastic Head of English to lead our outstanding department in September 2021.
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly talented and experienced teacher, who wishes to make a real impact in this “truly exceptional school” where “behaviour is outstanding” (Ofsted).
WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
• A motivated and inspirational leader, who is able to develop our high quality, engaging curriculum, to stretch and challenge all students across the Key Stages
• An outstanding practitioner with a track record in securing excellent student outcomes (Including key groups of Boys, Disadvantaged and SEND) and in supporting and coaching others in achieving this
• A strong Head of English, responsible for academic and behavioural standards across the department
• A leader who is passionate about their subject area and keeps abreast of the latest research and developments
• Commitment to deliver extra-curricular opportunities

The Cotswold School based in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, is an outstanding, caring secondary comprehensive school. Thanks to excellent student outcomes, we are the second-highest ranked comprehensive in the South West; and in the UK’s top 30 non-selective co-educational secondary schools, according to the influential Sunday Times 2020 Parent Power league tables. We have been rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in the last four consecutive inspections.
Building the future
We continue to build on our success: we opened a Sixth Form centre in 2018 to support our thriving 16-18 provision; a fully refurbished gymnasium in 2019; and a £5.8 million 10-classroom space and modernised science labs are due in 2021. Pupil intake increases by 30 places in Year 7 from September 2021.
