Head of English job summary
We are looking for a passionate and inspiring qualified Head of English to join our supportive and talented team at Digitech Studio School. This opportunity would be an ideal first step for someone looking to move into leadership. We are a growing organisation, looking for professional and ambitious people, with a passion for transforming our students’ learning.
Your opportunity:
We can offer you the opportunity to advance your career within a supportive academy environment. We provide excellent training and development opportunities within the Federation, including a full induction programme for newly qualified and experienced teachers. Training is both local and/or delivered through our excellent stand-alone training facility at the CLF Institute. For teachers, the CLF Institute aims to provide a continuum of development through each career stage from initial teacher training (ITT), for newly qualified teachers (NQT), recently qualified teachers in their early career development, to successive stages of leadership through to Headship and beyond.
What we are looking for:
Teachers support a designated cohort of students to make progress in their learning, engagement, core literacy, language and numeracy skills, and social development. This is achieved through taking responsibility for the learning of students - planning, delivering, facilitating and assessing their learning whilst showing ambition to develop as an outstanding teacher and leader. They will plan and deliver sessions and interventions, and provide a point of accountability, co-ordination and liaison for the students in their attendance, for their families and for professionals working with them. They will work towards typically good and outstanding lessons that achieve good student progress over time. This will be actioned by taking an active role in supporting the Academy’s high expectations of student behaviour and attitudes towards learning.
Commitment to safeguarding
Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.
Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.

Digitech is a 14-19 Studio School that is a fully integrated part of the Cabot Learning Federation. There are 543 students on roll, which is not typical of a Studio School as it is more usual that Studio Schools struggle with recruitment. The healthier student numbers are due to partnerships developed in Post 16. In Post 16, students are also educated on other industry-specific sites as part of a partnership with Boomsatsuma, a creative and media provider. Courses are site specific with exceptional links to the sector e.g. Media and Production at the Bottleyard Studios (home of Poldark and Crystal Maze); Sports Media at Ashton Gate (home of Bristol City); Media and Games Production at the Engine Shed (Employability Hub in central Bristol); Professional Acting courses using the same teachers as the Bristol Old Vic Degree course. Boomsatsuma have proven track record of good outcomes and a good reputation in the city; consequently, this has increased the expertise and visibility in the sector and increased the Digitech roll, securing the viability of the school. Post 16 results, where the average grade was Distinction, reflect this partnership and the quality of delivery. This is also the case for Post 16 courses delivered at Digitech. This is true for the 2020 summer outcomes as well as over time. A new partnership with Robins Foundation was formed in September 2020 to add Sports Diplomas into the curriculum offer. Digitech students are predominantly White British, although we actively recruit from areas of Bristol with high BAME populations. BAME students are better represented in our Post 16 and on courses delivered in partnership with Boomsatsuma. Digitech staff are a diverse group of professionals with representation from different ages, genders, cultural backgrounds and the BAME and LGBTQ+ communities. We actively welcome applications from BAME and LGBTQ professionals.
