What skills and experience we're looking for

You will be joining a hard-working, well-qualified and very friendly group of teachers who want the English subject to be seen as lively and exciting. You will provide clear and cohesive leadership and direction in teaching and learning, managing and motivating teaching and support colleagues in developing innovative teaching strategies to enhance the quality of teaching, learning and achievement. You will also have a whole-school responsibility for reading across the school.

English in the curriculum is key to helping students develop the ability to sympathise and empathise, to question the world in which we live, and explore the range of human behaviours and responses. In KS3, students explore a range of texts, exploring deep questions with the goal of building thoughtful, kind and empathetic human beings who will enter the wider world and enrich it with ideas and compassion. The KS3 curriculum also explores media, and the idea of bias, digital narrative and the impact of coupling images with words, so that young people are prepared for life with the knowledge to make informed decisions. In KS4, students are prepared with a strong academic focus for their GCSEs in Literature and Language, This solid bedrock has ensured that at KS5, the uptake of English Literature and Language continues to grow, students have a wider curiosity around the use of language in the media and wider world. You will be keen to lead your team to enhance the extra-curricular offer, improve overall teaching and learning and ensure students and your team meet their potential.

You will:

  • Be an excellent English teacher who truly is passionate about the subject;• Be a committed team player;• Have the ability to engage and inspire pupils and build excellent relationships;• Be committed to Felixstowe School's ethos;• Be passionate and ambitious about their own career development
