What skills and experience we're looking for

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated teacher to join our Academy.

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and highly committed teacher to lead our English Faculty. We are looking for an excellent classroom teacher, with a love for their subject and an ability to enthuse and motivate students in all aspects of their learning. The successful candidate will have experience of departmental or faculty management and a proven track record of delivering excellent public exam results over a period of time.

Interested candidates are invited to visit the school before making an application.

What the school offers its staff

The successful candidate will be joining a tight-knit community; the turnover at GCA is consistently low and the well-being of our staff is important to us. We aim to support staff to achieve a sensible work-life balance. All staff are different and supporting them requires an individual approach.

The personal development of all our staff is highly valued at GCA and we offer the opportunity to apply for our Learning Award of up to £2,400 per year for your continued professional development or other skills and talents. This is in addition to the school’s ongoing CPD programme. Other benefits staff can opt into include a cycle to work scheme and an interest-free annual season ticket loan.

Staff at the Academy collaborate and support each other by sharing good practice and taking a team approach with a focus on collective responsibility. Paul Sutton, our Principal, encourages teachers to have an impact beyond their subject and he is always available and happy to discuss ideas with you as to how this can be achieved. We have an impressive range of extra-curricular activities and all our staff are involved in running at least one.

Further details about the role

The English Faculty at Greig City Academy is creative, committed, collegial and very strong. We believe we work better for our students when we work as a team: we share resources, support one another’s development, and contribute ideas to improve and inspire each other. We also strongly believe in the Academy’s desire to incorporate extra-curricular opportunities to forge relationships, expand the curriculum, and broaden opportunities for students to engage with English as a subject. There is much scope here to develop in such a way.

Commitment to safeguarding

Greig City Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we have safer recruitment procedures in place for the selection of staff. Successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check and additional pre-employment checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance.

In line with KCSIE updates, an online search will be conducted as part of our due diligence checks on shortlisted candidates.
