Head of English job summary

Following the internal promotion of our existing postholder, we are looking to appoint a high quality, enthusiastic Head of English to join our large, successful English department. If you have the desire to make a real difference to the lives of young children and want to join a team of highly dedicated staff, then we would love to hear from you.

Full details of our English curriculum can be found on the Academy website. At Key Stage 4, we follow the Eduqas syllabus. Core texts include An Inspector Calls, Romeo and Juliet, A Christmas Carol and Jekyll and Hyde. Many students sit the Literature exam in Year 10 and focus their studies in Year 11 on English Language. At Key Stage 3, we have a robust curriculum that is designed to reinforce the skills at GCSE and transition students to Key Stage 4. Students have knowledge organisers on which they self-quiz, vocabulary work to enrich their tier 2 expressive language and study topics such as Victorian childhood, a range of Shakespeare texts, descriptive and narrative writing, transactional writing, dystopian fiction and poetry. At Key Stage 5 we offer English Literature and English Language and Literature.
