What skills and experience we're looking for

We are part of TKAT, a charitable trust that is inspiring learners and changing lives across 45 schools in the South and East of England. In all our schools, we love teaching. We love it when students "get it". When they have that penny drop moment after struggling and thinking hard. We love class discussions, we love silent contemplation and study, we also love students working together. At Hylands we love developing our teaching. We understand that great teaching is the reason why students at Hylands are great learners. As one of 14 secondary schools in TKAT, the trust also offers excellent CPD opportunities, a wide range of support, and a number of events where you can meet and engage with colleagues from other schools.

Hylands School is looking to appoint an exceptional professional who will lead the English department and work with us to inspire our students. The role will involve teaching English across key stages 3 - 5. Longer term, there are opportunities within the trust for exceptional teachers to become lead practitioners, and have the chance to challenge and support other schools.

The successful candidate will be someone who knows how to inspire students in order to challenge them to achieve outstanding progress and is someone who is prepared to go ‘above and beyond’. With a new, dynamic senior leadership team in place, the school offers excellent working conditions and staff receive strong support for their professional development. Committed and excellent practitioners will find Hylands School a place where career development is taken very seriously. You will also have the chance to work and possibly live in the new and exciting city of Chelmsford, just 30 minutes by train from London Liverpool Street.
