Salford City Academy is seeking an outstanding middle leader or aspiring middle leader to join a high achieving, successful and forward-looking English department. The English department its best ever results in 2022, achieving 72% grade 4+ or higher and 56% achieving grade 5+ or higher. We are looking for someone who has the drive and ambition to drive standards and improve results even further.
The English Department is an extremely ambitious department, expansion within the school has allowed the department to grow rapidly. You would be joining a team consisting of a Second in Department, Lead Practitioner, whole school oracy lead and three further teachers of English. The department is wholly committed to a research-informed approach to teaching, learning and assessment. You will reap the benefits of a purposefully sequenced curriculum and centralised departmental resources. As a United Learning school, the department also benefits from support from a team of dedicated subject advisors and strong collaboration between other United Learning schools.
Literacy and reading are one of the academy’s top priorities. Students’ reading and literacy skills are developed by a carefully designed curriculum to continuously interleave both knowledge and skills as well as a comprehensive whole school reading and literacy programme. The curriculum leader for English will work closely with our literacy co-ordinator to ensure that a love of reading and English are embedded across the school.

Academic results at the academy have improved year on year and we were delighted to celebrate the schools ‘best’ results this summer achieving a progress 8 of +0.31, placing us in the top 24% of schools in the country and top of all northern United Learning schools. The academy enjoys state of the art facilities and has a committed, high quality teaching team which is focussed on engaging and motivating all students. The academy is now oversubscribed, and we are looking to for opportunities to recruit excellent candidates into our fantastic team.

As an academy committed to professional development, all teaching staff will be expected to actively participate in CPD programmes. We work collaboratively, share good practice, and have a Trust-wide approach to development.
