Enrichment is a key part of our department offer with regular theatre trips, visits and residential opportunities related to the curriculum. The department offers internal writing competitions, we reward reading progress using Accelerated Reader and have had brilliant success in regional and national reading competitions.
The department has a well-resourced curriculum across the key stages with established routines around assessment, revision and home-learning. Every classroom is well-equipped with interactive screens, access to class-sets of chromebooks and google classroom is an established part of our curriculum delivery. Our classes are taught entirely in mixed-ability groupings in each year which aligns with our Challenge for All agenda.
Currently, the department comprises of co-ordinators for key stages 3 and 4 as well as an intervention co-ordinator. The whole-school literacy coordinator, STEAM coordinator and SENDCo are all English teachers along with the Deputy Headteacher. In addition to this, the team has several examiners for Eduqas which is our chosen GCSE specification. We benefit from LSAs who work primarily within English who support in the classroom and facilitate interventions outside of the classroom.
You will be joining and leading the team at an exciting time with the GCSE results in 2024 being our best yet. Pupil outcomes were significantly above national in both attainment and progress. The English department at Weaverham High School consists of experienced and highly skilled teachers who are both full-time and part-time with many holding various Teaching and Learning Responsibilities within the department or school-wide.
