What we are looking for:
We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate who will actively and positively promote Geography within the academy and will teach engaging and challenging lessons to enable our pupils to progress and achieve.
The role does not require previous experience as a Head of Department or Lead Teacher but does require the skills of teaching expertise, leadership and decision-making, administrative accuracy and excellent organisational skills, all combined with empathy, patience and humour to build rapport with our pupils. This is a fantastic opportunity for colleagues looking for their first step into leadership or for experienced leaders. With our extensive support and professional development, the successful candidate will be given the opportunity to develop and enhance their leadership skills.
The candidate will ensure high standards of pupil attainment and achievement within the whole curriculum and will monitor and support pupil progress. The successful candidate will be ambitious and have a firm commitment to raising whole school achievement. They will provide professional leadership and management of the Geography faculty and will support and develop Geography teaching staff.
Working with SLT and OAT’s Subject Specialist Practitioners, the successful candidate will ensure the development of the teaching practices of others within the department/subject area and will lead the development and quality assurance of the Geography curriculum.
Applicants will possess a teaching qualification and will be a highly competent classroom practitioner. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of how children learn and assessment for learning as well as how to effectively manage behaviour.
The successful candidate will possess clear communication skills and the ability to relate well to both pupils and staff. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate commitment and energy to join our team and work to provide positive learning experiences for all our pupils.
The successful candidate will:
Strategically lead the curriculum development and teaching of Geography
Collaborate with the Geography department and OAT Lead practitioner to quality assure teaching and learning in the department.
Facilitate and lead learning experiences outside of the classroom.
Have high expectations of self, pupils and academy for standards of teaching and learning
Have a passion for teaching and learning, celebrating success and encouraging all to aspire, achieve and excel.
Inspire pupils and staff through a passionate commitment to the subject.
Strong organisational, personal time management and planning skills
Have the knowledge and experience of /willingness to learn about effective leadership and management of people/management of change in an educational setting.
To oversee and evaluate budget allocations to ensure the budget is spent in line with priorities and the principles of best value, ensuring all resources are maintained safely and in good order
Have the ability to use all Microsoft Office packages to a proficient standard
Have the ability to work well in a team and independently
to promote the building and sharing of good practice and successful innovation across your team
Have experience in monitoring and evaluating standards of teaching and learning through observation, sampling pupil’s work and pupil feedback
Have experience in overseeing effective assessment, recording and reporting of pupil progress
