Head of History job summary

After internal promotion, we are looking for an excellent Head Of History, TLR 2b, to join our team in January 2023 and help us transform the lives of children. We value potential as highly as experience so if you are only a few years into your career please do not hesitate to apply. This is an opportunity to join the middle-leadership of a school where the ambition is a simple one: to become the highest performing school in the UK within the next three years. We serve the best children in the country and they deserve and will receive, a world class education. We are now one of the most improved schools in the country and one of the highest performing in Plymouth. We are passionate about the humanities and all of our children receive more lessons in this area than any other school in the region.

Over the last few years we have moved to become one of the best schools in the country and we are looking for someone who is personally ambitious and dedicated to ensuring that all children, irrespective of background, receive a world class education. Please only apply if you passionately believe:

Background or home-life is not an excuse for failure or poor behaviour.

Every student should have the opportunity to attend University when they leave.

Discipline, hard work, consistency and routines underpin student wellbeing and happiness.

That group work, learning checklists and ‘active learning’ are overrated.

That academic rigour, challenge and knowledge acquisition are vital to success.

That school leaders remove barriers for colleagues so that they can grow and excel.

That leadership, resilience and aspiration are valuable characteristics to grow in children.

If you believe all of these things, are professionally ambitious and driven to transform the lives of the children of our community and City then please apply for the position of Head Of History, TLR 2b. You will need to be a subject specialist and ideally have experience of teaching through to Year 13. History is hugely important to the future of the school and we are very passionate about its further development. This is an excellent pathway to senior leadership and we take a great deal of pride in growing leaders of the future.

If you are out of area, Devon is a wonderful place to work, the coastline, countryside and clean air offer an amazing lifestyle for professionals and their families unlike anywhere else in the UK and we can offer a relocation package to those moving from out of the region.

We are delighted to be part of The Ted Wragg Multi Academy Trust - a values driven, rapidly growing Trust with a relentless focus on transforming lives through learning by delivering outstanding outcomes for every student, regardless of background.

With a reputation for highly successful school improvement in very challenging circumstances, we are passionate about driving up standards and raising the aspirations of all our students.
