Head of Humanities (including History, Geography and Religion, Philosophy & Ethics) job summary

We are a unique, small, rural 11-16 academy in the beautiful setting of North-West Worcestershire. Our pupils are happy, well behaved and proud of their school. The academy has a strong vein of moral purpose where the child is at the heart of all we do. We invest in our pupils and our staff to ensure all are supported to be the best they can be.

We are looking for a driven and committed practitioner to lead a successful, experienced and innovative Humanities department consisting of four full time teachers and a small number of non-specialist hours at KS3. The team are organised, collaborative and passionate about providing the best possible provision for the children at Tenbury High. The academy is committed to delivering a whole school curriculum where the EBACC is central to the learning experiences of our pupils. The faculty consists of Geography, History and Religion, Philosophy and Ethics.

In addition to the leadership role, the post holder will be an experienced, inspiring and enthusiastic individual able to teach History to pupils across both Key Stage 3 and 4.

The team are an experienced faculty of teachers who collaborate and share practice effectively across their subject specialisms. History is a popular subject at our school and take up at GSCE is healthy amongst pupils of all abilities. The curriculum aims to provide our pupils with knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We recognise the importance of studying History in helping pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time. History education within THOA aims to equip our pupils with both the knowledge and the skills required to become well-rounded individuals.
