Head of KS3 Physical Education and KS2 outreach job summary

Inner London Pay Scale – MPS/UPS plus TLR £4,531
To start September 2021
Permanent
E1 0LB, Whitechapel, London Borough of Tower Hamlets

We seek to appoint an exceptional Teacher of Physical Education who has a proven track record of good or outstanding classroom practice. This post would not be suited to newly qualified teachers.

This is a school in an area of relatively high deprivation which transforms the life opportunities of children. If you came into teaching to transform lives, then this is an opportunity for you to do so.

Physical Education is a highly popular subject at the school, attracting high numbers across examinable courses in KS4 and 5. However, we are not complacent - working with a team of passionate and dedicated practitioners, you will contribute to the development of a faculty that aims to maintain an outstanding reputation.

The PE department is extremely committed to providing a safe, relevant, enjoyable and all-inclusive curriculum. As a school we recognise the role that sport can play in the holistic development of a young person and the integral role this plays in society. The PE department provides a wide variety of sports, ensuring that pupils can pursue their sporting interests both inside and outside of school. In addition to providing an inclusive curriculum we are a school that actively encourages the pursuit of sporting excellence. We have a number of students and sports teams that compete at a regional and national level with our most successful sports being football, basketball, netball and athletics. A high level of experience in any of this sports is desirable though not essential.

In addition to overseeing the KS3 curriculum we offer to our young people, the successful candidate will also have responsibility for developing and co-ordinating our KS2 outreach programme. This includes managing the PE provision we offer our local feeder primary schools and setting up a sporting excellence programme for the gifted and talented athletes in the borough. This exciting new initiative will involve working with local sports clubs to harness the sporting talent in the local community. It is hoped that these young people will join Bishop Challoner for their secondary education, to continue their sporting journey with us. Though experience of KS2 PE is not essential, the successful candidate must hold excellent organisational and interpersonal skills and must be committed to our vision for Physical Education and Sport.

This is a fantastic opportunity for exceptional teachers. You do not need to be a practicing Catholic to apply.

We are looking for professionals with:
-The willingness and ability to support our Catholic Ethos
-Evidence of excellent classroom practice
-A track record of successful student outcomes at KS3, KS4 and KS5
-High expectations of pupil attainment and behaviour
-Passion for providing an extensive amount of extra-curricular opportunities for our young people
-The ability to build positive relationships with staff, students and parents

If you have the passion and drive to contribute to the future development of the PE and Healthy Living Faculty at Bishop Challoner, we look forward to hearing from you.

Commitment to safeguarding

Our federation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Any appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check. The Governing Body is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
