Head of KS4 English job summary

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head of KS4 English to lead the development and delivery of the Key Stage 4 English curriculum. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated educator to inspire students, support academic excellence, and drive progress across GCSE English.

Uplands Academy is based in Wadhurst, East Sussex, an area of outstanding natural beauty and is close to Royal Tunbridge Wells. Wadhurst is commutable from places such as Brighton, Hastings, Eastbourne and Lewes.

In September 2022, Beacon Academy, together with Uplands Academy in Wadhurst, became a member of the MARK Education Trust (formally Beacon Community College Academy Trust). The acronym, MARK, was selected because staff who work in the Trust are motivated, ambitious, resourceful, and knowledgeable. This partnership provides many exciting opportunities for professional development, and the sharing of good practice across the two schools.

Our staff have high expectations, are ambitious for our students, and they know them well – there are approximately 800 students across Years 7-13 (7-11 from September 2025). We pride ourselves on our rigorous focus on the child as a unique individual, including our most disadvantaged and those with SEND. We ensure that the lessons our students receive our effectively adapted and inclusive, enabling them to be actively engaged in their learning. We want our children to be happy, successful, and confident by providing the best possible education for all our students.
