Head of Mathmatics job summary

We are looking to recruit an inspirational team leader and highly effective practitioner to head up the Norton Hill Mathematics team to sustain and further improve on the excellent outcomes that Norton Hill students achieve in Mathematics. Since the introduction of the new specification 84% of Year 11 students at Norton Hill have achieved a standard pass and 60% have achieved a strong pass in GCSE Mathematics. In 2019 in A-Level Mathematics 70% of students achieved A*-B passes and in Core Maths 80% of students achieved A or B passes.

Norton Hill is part of the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership (MNSP), a growing Multi Academy Trust currently including six secondary schools. The Head of Mathematics at Norton Hill will work with the Director of Mathematics for the MNSP to ensure that outcomes for students of all abilities and backgrounds remain very high. Within the Trust, Norton Hill has always led on secondary Maths strategy and has a reputation for initiative and cutting-edge innovation in teaching and learning, monitoring and assessment and intervention. The Head of Mathematics would be expected to maintain and enhance this reputation by continually seeking ways to innovate and improve to ensure that students have the best possible experience of secondary Mathematics. The Head of Mathematics at Norton Hill will also be part of the MNSP Mathematics Leadership Team and will have regular opportunities to work with the other Maths leaders in the trust to steer policy and have a wider impact.

This post would suit a candidate with experience of middle leadership looking for the challenge of making a bigger impact with a highly effective department within a large and high performing school.

Norton Hill is a successful school serving Midsomer Norton, Radstock and the surrounding rural area where there is an abundance of attractive and affordable housing. The school is on the edge of the Mendips but close to both Bath and Bristol.
