Northampton Academy is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and ambitious Head of Maths to replace our current Head of Maths who has been internally promoted to the position of Assistant Principal.
The successful candidate will fully embrace our values of Respect, Determination and Ambition, and will have a working knowledge of how these will apply within a Secondary Academy context and within the role itself.
The leadership of the Academy is completely determined to create an environment in which teachers can get on with their core role: delivering excellent lessons. To this end, the student behaviour system is clear and simple and easy to administer in lessons. If action is needed beyond these simple steps, the pastoral and senior teams take all the burden away from the teachers, conducting detentions, following up and dealing with parents on your behalf. Teachers at the Academy speak of this as one of the major benefits of working here. In addition to this, teachers are trusted to be professionals through:
• No unannounced observations
• No lesson grading
• 3 extra INSET days per year for joint team planning
• A feedback and recognition policy that lets teachers decide the best feedback mechanism for their own classes, rather than having this prescribed centrally
• No emails (except safeguarding) after 5.30pm and at weekends
As Head of Maths, you will lead on all aspects of Maths teaching and will have specific responsibility for tracking the progress and attainment of students within the subject area and across the key stages. We will expect you to manage and develop a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for the subject area. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on standards of student attainment and achievement through your fresh ideas, motivational skills and keen focus on improvement. The successful candidate will lead an experienced Mathematics faculty which has its own specialist teaching wing, staffroom and resource base. We are fortunate to be well staffed with permanent teachers and staff who come to teach with us tend to want to stay in the faculty due to its excellent team dynamic, examination success and breadth of teaching opportunity.
We are looking for a leader who will inspire students in our school to achieve their full potential. In turn, the post provides strong opportunities for professional development in an environment where staff are highly valued, well supported and enjoy their work. We are committed to investing in the future of the successful applicant. We will commit to accredited leadership training, as well as opportunities to work closely with other Heads of Maths within the group
