Head of Maths job summary

We are looking for an experienced and knowledgeable teacher who is committed to getting the best outcomes for pupils, if this sounds like you, then we want to hear from you. You will be able to build effective working relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues and will adapt your teaching to meet the needs of all pupils.

The Trinity Catholic School a Voluntary Academy is a secondary school located in Nottingham. We are an Ofsted-rated Good school.

We are part of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Multi-Academy Trust, bringing together the 36 Catholic Primary and Secondary schools in Lincolnshire, Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire.

You would be joining us at an exciting time where we are looking to review our KS3 maths curriculum in line with our school’s new curriculum intent inspired by Pope John Francis: “The Catholic school is a path that leads to the three languages a mature person needs to know: the language of the mind, the language of the heart, and the language of the hands.”

Head – Knowledge-Rich:

Students study and broad and balanced curriculum that it is sequenced carefully over time. We aim to ensure that ambitious substantive and disciplinary knowledge is at the heart of the curriculum. That it is specified in detail and taught to be remembered. As a Catholic school we will prioritise knowledge of Jesus, scripture and the Church’s teachings.

Heart – Faith, Love and Respect:

Through students’ experiences of the curriculum and wider school life, we will ensure that our school is built on faith, love and respect. Relationships are at the heart of the school. Students will have the opportunity to develop their relationship with Jesus through prayer, liturgy, retreat experiences and reflection.

Hands – Application of Knowledge:

Once secure, we will focus on the application of knowledge (e.g. problem-solving, evaluation). Important skills will be modelled and practised until they are mastered, Students will be encouraged to live out their knowledge of the Catholic mission in all of their actions and to use their knowledge make a difference in the world.

We are looking for a candidate who could translate these aims into clear and coherent curriculum plans which are implemented consistently throughout the department.

You will:

  • Lead the continuing development of high-quality learning and teaching in all key stages.
  • Be committed to achieving excellent results.
  • Be able to plan and prepare high quality learning for all students.
  • Be a confident, positive, and visible leader with the ability to build relationships with staff, pupils, parents.
  • Be able to inspire learning and progress.
  • Hold a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Have good understanding of the Maths curriculum at all key stages.
  • Be enthusiastic and have a positive attitude, with a passion for working with young people.
  • Provide a safe and healthy environment following safeguarding procedures.
  • Use and develop innovative and resourceful teaching methods.

The Trinity Catholic School serves the children and families of the City of Nottingham and its surrounding areas. Situated in Aspley on a split site in the East of the city, we work with the parishes of St Teresas of Lisieux in Aspley, St Augustine’s in St Anns, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour in Bulwell and St Mary’s in Hyson Green.
