Thornden School is part of the HISP Multi Academy Trust, which was formed in January 2020. As a MAT, we aim to ensure that our schools have strong and talented leadership and staff, who in turn will ensure that the young people who are in each of the MAT schools have access to excellent education, support and wider opportunities.

Thornden is an oversubscribed, outstanding school serving Chandler’s Ford and the surrounding area with just over 1470 students on roll. We have an ambitious ethos based on high expectations for all. Our students are proud of their academic and wider achievements, having a belief in their own success and ability to succeed which continues beyond our school with a high percentage of Thornden students excelling at local colleges and then at further and higher education.

In the results for 2019, 90% of our students achieved 5 or more 9-4 grades including English and Maths and 54% achieved the English Baccalaureate. Our value added performance was 0.65 in 2019 which puts the school at the top of the league tables for Hampshire. We had anticipated even better performance and outcomes for 2020.

Thornden is a busy and dynamic school with a strong focus on developing the whole child. We have a vibrant performing arts department that encourages students to embrace a rich cultural education beyond the more traditional subjects. Alongside our formal curriculum provision, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities including sporting clubs and teams, author visits, Duke of Edinburgh Award and trips within the UK and abroad. We firmly believe that by engaging students and encouraging enjoyment we inspire them to learn and achieve therefore helping them to develop into fully contributing and happy members of our community. Thornden also leads a large successful Teaching School alliance with an outstanding School Centred Initial Teacher Training programme and we are a Research School.
