What skills and experience we're looking for

The Role

Bonjour! Hola! Hello!

We are seeking an ambitious and inspiring Head of MFL who seeks to make languages accessible and relevant to our students. You will have the ability, freedom and support to bring languages to life for all at our academy. Our school community understands the value of languages and would like every student to study a language at KS4, with some taking it further. You will have the vision and drive to work towards this ambitious target, which will ensure that our students are able to achieve in the wider world.

The academy would like to appoint someone who is passionate about languages and its value in the curriculum and will be committed to their own development as a senior leader in time.

You will have a track record of improvement and some experience of leading staff, but your passion is imperative! You must have the capacity to create a clear strategy to enhance and develop the department in achieving academic excellence. We will give you the freedom, autonomy and support to adapt and review the MFL curriculum in line with our vision.

You will need to be someone who cares, both for our students and for your team. We pride ourselves on the unity of our staff and our departments. The Highcrest family is an important part of academy life. The right candidate will embrace the school’s visions and values to be an integral part of our team.

We believe that our Heads of Department have a pivotal role in inspiring and challenging pupils of every ability in every year to raise their academic standards, in promoting their confidence and self-esteem, and in securing year on year improving GCSE and post-16 results.

What the school offers its staff

Highcrest offers an innovative and extensive CPD package. No matter what your experience, we will help you develop into the teacher you aspire to be. A thriving school in the heart of the community, we also offer free on-site parking, staff recognition schemes and free gym to counter the “Friday Biscuits” and on-site coffee shop!

“Staff feel very well supported by senior leaders. According to staff, they feel valued because senior leaders are approachable..”... Ofsted Report February 2020.

Further details about the role

“The school has a warm and welcoming atmosphere” and“Pupils at The Highcrest Academy happily live up to the school’s motto of ‘aspire and achieve’.” Ofsted 2020

Our aim is to establish a culture of excellence throughout every element of our academy and move us from Good to Outstanding.

Just 30 minutes by train from Central London, The Highcrest Academy is the first All Ability Academy in the county of Buckinghamshire. It is culturally diverse and a vibrant school making it a fantastic place to teach. We have some students who will need all your support and yet we also featured in the national Ofsted report (2016) for providing challenge to the most able. Does this enthuse you?

There are approximately 1,000 students on roll, which includes the Sixth Form. A new building programme, just completed, comprises a brand-new Sixth Form Centre, sports facilities including a gym, and a new restaurant and coffee shop for both students and staff. We also have a thriving House system that brings our whole school community together.

Commitment to safeguarding

The Highcrest Academy is fully committed to safeguarding children (policies on web). All members of staff are in a “regulated” role under the Vetting & Barring Scheme and have to be DBS cleared prior to employment.
