What skills and experience we're looking for
A rare opportunity has arisen for a dynamic leader to join a successful and flourishing MFL department. You will be an outstanding classroom practitioner whose passion and subject knowledge promotes students’ enjoyment of languages throughout Key Stage 3 to 5. You will have expertise in teaching across the ability range from Year 7 to Year 13, providing challenge for the most able students as well as ensuring effective support where needed.
Our MFL department currently teaches French and German and we hope to introduce Spanish to the curriculum from September 2023. Our ideal candidate would be a specialist teacher in German and/or Spanish, but other modern languages would be considered. The successful candidate will liaise effectively with the Head of French.
With proven leadership ability, you will lead and manage the MFL team to deliver high quality teaching and learning, maximising student progress.
The MFL Department at Torquay Girls’ Grammar School is a dynamic and collaborative team. We enjoy working together to design and deliver an exciting curriculum that engages our students and promotes enjoyment of the subject.
Learning in the MFL department is active and lively. We encourage students to be independent in their thinking and to communicate their ideas confidently, asking questions, challenging ideas and using modern technology for both research and presentation purposes.
Our aim is to enthuse students through our own passion for languages, nurturing both their critical and creative skills. Across all key stages, we provide opportunities that enhance our students’ experience of MFL.
What the school offers its staff
Although the school previously had a Head of MFL, for several years we have operated with a Head of French and a Head of German. Due to our aspirations for adding a new language to our offer, it is felt that it is the right time to advertise and recruit for a Head of MFL to drive this vision forward. The successful candidate will be focussed on the oversight of German, and hopefully Spanish from September 2023, and liaising effectively with the Head of French.
