Head of Music job summary
The Role
The Head of Music takes responsibility for all curricular and extra-curricular music at the school. Music is taught from Year 7 to Year 13: we are proud to have maintained A Level provision in our Sixth Form. All students are taught a diverse Music curriculum at key stage 3, with the option to take it through to GCSE and beyond. We consider Music to be an essential part of a student’s education, teaching them the knowledge and skills they need to understand composition, enjoy listening to music and develop a broad, cultural appreciation of the role music plays in society. The post holder will also promote participation and excellence in extra-curricular music, including the provision of instrumental and choral opportunities and tuition.
The Person
Suitable candidates will have the ability to teach music at all key stages, and to inspire students to continue to study music and participate beyond the curriculum, including through public performances. They will be an excellent instrumentalist, ideally with competency as a pianist, leading choirs and small instrumental groups (e.g. orchestra, jazz band, rock bands).
Commitment to safeguarding
Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.
Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.
