Head of Music job summary

Reepham High School & College is an 11-18 comprehensive school, 12 miles north of Norwich. It has approximately 1100 students in total, including 240 students in the sixth form, known as ‘Reepham College’. The school serves a very wide catchment area of nearly 400 square kilometres and 85% of our young people travel by bus.

The school is a true comprehensive school with pupils of all abilities and backgrounds. The intake of the school is broadly in line with the national average in terms of prior attainment. We are currently working to improve our GCSE results, although performance at A Level is consistently in the top 10% nationally for progress made.

We seek a talented Head of Music. We offer a position in a high achieving, ambitious, friendly, well-disciplined school, in a team of supportive specialists. Accommodation and resourcing are of an exceptional standard. We currently have a thriving GCSE take up and regularly have students follow the subject at A level.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced teacher who:

Is able to challenge and enthuse the learning of pupils both in the classroom and through extra-curricular activities.

Is able to teach music and music technology to A Level standard.

Is able to use a wide range of skills to deliver the music curriculum.

Responsibilities

To teach pupils at both KS3, KS4 and KS5.

To monitor and track the progress of pupils in their classes.

Raising the profile of Music across the school.

Arranging, encouraging and supporting pupils to take part in educational visits and extra-curricular activities.

Raising the performance and results of the Music department.

The Music Department currently enjoys good results and positive value-added scores at both GCSE and A-Level. The numbers of students opting for GCSE music are also healthy and it is essential that the prospective candidate is able to translate their enthusiasm for the subject into good results and able to encourage students to opt for music at GCSE and A Level.

It is crucial that prospective candidates have excellent subject knowledge and a commitment to high standards. Knowledge of music-technology would be desirable as it is used extensively across all key stages. They should have an imaginative and flexible approach to both teaching and learning, as well as a good sense of humour.

The successful candidate will be committed, organised and will be able to work as part of a team. Candidates should be willing to contribute to the department’s extra-curricular activities and/or develop new activities.
