Head of PE job summary

Copley Academy is a rapidly improving school. Our December 2021 Ofsted report describes the “great strides” that leaders have made and praises the “high aspirations” for students and the “broad and ambitious” curriculum.Most importantly, the report also says that students are “happy and proud” to attend the Academy.

We are looking to appoint an exceptional candidate to take the lead in a forward thinking and ambitious PE department, on a permanent basis.Working closely with other colleagues in the department, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead curriculum planning, teaching and learning at KS3 and KS4, embedding challenge for all and ensuring all students make exceptional progress. The department currently offer Core PE to all students and the CAMNAT qualification at Key Stage 4. There will also be the opportunity to grow as a leader through a dedicated CPD package, that will equip the post holder for further future progression.

We wish to appoint a colleague to this post who has:

  • Outstanding teaching and interpersonal skills
  • A strong academic background with the ability to teach to GCSE and vocational courses
  • Demonstrable impact in leading progress
  • Demonstrable impact in leading first quality teaching
  • Evidence of ambition and a commitment to continuing professional development
  • The desire to maximise the performance of all students and the very best progress for all
