What skills and experience we're looking for
Silverdale School, a renowned secondary school in Sheffield, is seeking a dynamic and innovative Head of PE to join our highly successful department. We are looking for a passionate leader who can inspire students and staff alike to achieve their full potential.
As Head of PE, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of physical education at Silverdale. You will oversee a thriving department with multiple GCSE and A-level PE groups, as well as a wide range of popular extra-curricular clubs. Your leadership will be instrumental in fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment where students can develop their skills, confidence, and love of sports.
The successful candidate will lead a cohesive and talented team of 6 PE teachers. This is a great opportunity for current or aspiring PE subject leaders to join our successful and growing team.
The post holder must at all times carry out their responsibilities within the spirit of the school and trust policies and within the framework of legislation relating to academies and education, with particular regard to the statutory responsibilities of the trust and the governing body of the school.
The job description should be read alongside the range of professional duties of teachers as set out the Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document. The post-holder will be expected to undertake duties in line with the professional standards for qualified teachers and uphold the professional code of the Department for Education.

Silverdale School is an extremely popular and high achieving 11-18 comprehensive in the south west of Sheffield and is the founding school of Chorus Education Trust. Silverdale has 1,450 students on roll including 450 in Silverdale Sixth Form. In 2020 it was named the Sunday Times Top State Secondary School in the North of the Decade, in recognition of its sustained success.
Silverdale has an excellent record of student achievement at both key stage 4 and key stage 5. At our heart is one of the country’s original teaching school hubs, the South Yorkshire Teaching Hub, which includes the Sheffield Teacher Training Alliance and National Modern Languages SCITT.

The school achieved the best GCSE results in 2018 of any state school in Sheffield. At Post 16 the progress students make places Silverdale in the top 10% of schools nationally. At its heart is one of the country’s largest Teaching Schools, the Sheffield Teaching School Alliance. Silverdale moved into a brand new building in January 2009 with a full complement of facilities. Silverdale School is part of Chorus Education Trust, and as such all appointees may be required to work at any Trust site in the future.
