Head of PE job summary

We are seeking a well-qualified and enthusiastic Head of PE to join this established, progressive and well-resourced department. The academy would like to appoint someone who is passionate about PE and enjoys teaching. Ideally, you will have a track record of improvement and some experience of managing staff. You will have a clear strategy to further the development of Academic PE to achieve excellence within the school.

As Head of PE, you will promote sporting participation and ensure that extra-curricular activities play a part in the students' weekly routine. You will also ensure that the academy identifies and supports sporting excellence and provides opportunities for students to develop in their specialist areas. You will lead the quality assurance of educational provision by monitoring teaching and learning, observing lessons, evaluating the department’s performance and you must be willing to participate in extra-curricular activities.

If you share our aspirations to deliver a sports and physical activities programme that is inclusive and flexible, in which all our pupils can participate, enjoy and achieve, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Our Ofsted Report February 2020 says “The school has a warm and welcoming atmosphere” and “Pupils at The Highcrest Academy happily live up to the school’s motto of ‘aspire and achieve’.”.

Our aim is to establish a culture of excellence throughout every element of our academy and move us from Good to Outstanding.

Just 30 minutes by train from Central London, The Highcrest Academy is the first All Ability Academy in the county of Buckinghamshire. It is culturally diverse and a vibrant school making it a fantastic place to teach. We have some students who will need all your support and yet we also featured in the national Ofsted report (2016) for providing challenge to the most able.

There are approximately 1,000 students on roll, which includes the Sixth Form. A new building programme, just completed, comprises a brand-new Sixth Form Centre, sports facilities including a gym, and a new restaurant and coffee shop for both students and staff. We also have a thriving House system that brings our whole school community together.

Commitment to safeguarding

The Highcrest Academy is fully committed to safeguarding children (policies on web). All members of staff are in a “regulated” role under the Vetting & Barring Scheme and have to be DBS cleared prior to employment.

All who work at the academy reinforce our six virtues linked to our motto (Ambition, Sensitivity, Purpose, Integrity, Resilience and Eloquence), helping us instil a culture of excellence that runs throughout every strand of our Academy.

Situated in the leafy Chilterns and within easy reach of Central London, Highcrest is culturally and academically diverse and is the only academy in Buckinghamshire that caters for students of ‘all abilities’. Some of our students need all your support, whilst others need to be challenged and stretched. Our inclusive and successful House system, a wide range of clubs, visits and trips helps to bring our whole school community together.
