Head of Performing Arts job summary
We are seeking a well-qualified and enthusiastic Head of Performing Arts to join this established, progressive and well-resourced department. The academy would like to appoint someone who is passionate about Drama and Music and enjoys teaching. Ideally, you will have a track record of improvement and some experience of managing staff. You will have a clear strategy to further the development of Academic Performing Arts to achieve excellence within the school.
The successful candidate will need to be a Drama specialist and be able to lead, manage and develop the subjects of Drama and Music across keys stages 3, 4 and 5. A key responsibility will be to actively secure the commitment of Performing Arts to the vision, direction, climate, culture and policies of the academy and lead by example at all times.
As Head of Performing Arts, you will promote participation and ensure that extra-curricular activities play a part in the students' weekly routine. You will also ensure that the academy identifies and supports Drama and Music excellence and provides opportunities for students to develop in their specialist areas. You will lead the quality assurance of educational provision by monitoring teaching and learning, observing lessons, evaluating the department’s performance and you must be willing to participate in extra-curricular activities including leading on and overseeing concerts, performances and school productions.

Highcrest offers a comprehensive induction and support programme for Early Careers Teacher, starting with a two-week paid induction prior to you starting your role. As an ECT, you will have weekly CPD meetings with experienced members of staff, weekly time-tabled and protected Mentor Meetings, subject knowledge time with departments and an extensive personalised CPD plan.

Situated in the leafy Chilterns and within easy reach of Central London, Highcrest is culturally and academically diverse and is the only academy in Buckinghamshire that caters for students of ‘all abilities’. Some of our students need all your support, whilst others need to be challenged and stretched. Our inclusive and successful House system, a wide range of clubs, visits and trips helps to bring our whole school community together.
There are approximately 1000 students on roll, including the Sixth Form. Recent additions to our site include a gym and restaurant/coffee shop for both staff and students, as well as a purpose-built Sixth Form Centre.
