What skills and experience we're looking for

The Governors of St EdmundArrowsmithCatholic High Schoolwish to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and inspirational leader of our PE Department.

The successful candidate will have a clear vision of how the teaching of PE should develop over the next few years. They will be able to develop a challenging curriculum at KS3 that motivates our pupils and secures high levels of progress for those KS4 students who choose to study PE.The postholder will have the management skills to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the department, and join a team of like-minded individuals, both within the department and throughout the school.

Our PE Department is well equipped with a gymnasium, sports hall, outdoor tennis courts, a MUGA pitch and a large field area. It is important to acknowledge that PE is an important part of the curriculum and a popular option subject, offered at GCSE, along with Cambridge Nationals in Sports Studies and Sports Science

We are committed to our extra-curricular and enrichment programme, with students able to choose from a variety of sporting activities. We are proud of our close links to external sporting organisations, such as Wigan Warriors Rugby Club and promote the opportunities to strengthen school-to-club links within our community. We pride ourselves on broadening pupils’ experiences with physical activity and sport. PE plays a central part in the school-house system, culminating in in a whole school sports day, which has legendary status amongst our school community, past and present.

We are passionately committed to the professional development of our staff and offer an outstanding CPL programme that is universally valued by colleagues. A lot of care and is taken to manage workload to ensure that colleagues enjoy their work and it is recognised that SEACHS is a positive place to teach.
