Head of Primary Phase

Hours: Full-time

Salary: L12 - L17 (This range will be reviewed as the primary phase of the school moves to full capacity.)

Part of the Aletheia Academies Trust, Saint George’s Church of England school is a successful and thriving school that has served the children of Gravesend since the 17th century. The school is a Church of England, co-educational school which became an all-through school when our primary phase opened in 2019. The school is a warm, caring and highly inclusive place where all members of the community are cared for and valued, this is lived out through our CHRIST values of Creativity, Honesty, Resilience, Inclusion, Stewardship and Thankfulness, and through our vision statement, All Different, All Equal, All Flourishing. The Aletheia Academies Trust now has 12 schools, 11 of which are primary and both of our phases benefit greatly from the work of the Aletheia Best Practice Teams in all key areas of school life.

The all through school has been inspected once so far under a Section 48, (SIAMS) wherein the effectiveness, character and ethos of the school was judged to be ‘Excellent’ in all areas. The most recent Ofsted inspection in October 2023 judged the school as ‘Good’ and found both the personal development of pupils, and our early years provision, to be outstanding. Both phases are significantly oversubscribed.

The site has been greatly developed and refurbished over the recent years. In addition to the new primary phase building the site has benefited from a new science building, a floodlit 3G sports facility and a £6 million secondary building housing the 6th form, performing arts and core subjects. All facilities are accessible to the entire school community regardless of key stage. Some staff teach and support across both phases and subject leaders from all phases work closely together to build a clear and cohesive curriculum journey from Year R to 13 in each academic subject. In addition, the primary phase is based upon the Essentials Curriculum developed by Chris Quigley across all subjects, this is complemented by a number of other teaching and learning tools, including through the use of White Rose Maths, Little Wandle for phonics and Accelerated Reader.

This is a truly exciting time to join the Saint George’s leadership team. Given the demand for places the primary phase expanded to 2 forms of entry in reception from September 2023 and will see our very first Year 6 cohort in September 2024. The successful applicant will play an important part in leading the further growth of the primary phase and working with other leaders to develop a genuine all-through provision at St George’s. We recognise that the role and associated responsibilities will develop as numbers in the primary phase increase which makes this an ideal position for an applicant who wishes to genuinely shape the educational future for local children.

Saint George's Church of England School is a popular wide ability school for boys and girls. It is located in pleasant green fields and is within easy reach of the A2/M2 motorway with excellent transport links to London. In 2016 it was the most oversubscribed high school in Kent.

Saint George’s Church of England School converted to Academy status in November 2011 and is a founder member of the Aletheia Anglican Academies Trust formed in December 2014.

The school recently underwent a section 8 inspection (February 2017) and was considered to have remained 'Good' overall with 'Outstanding' for Leadership and Management; continued improvement since the last inspection was also recognised. I recommend it to you as a friendly community, where an energetic, willing, supportive staff work enthusiastically and collaboratively to enable students to excel.

We are delighted that we have been able to expand our age range to open a new primary department on site, making Saint George's an all through school from 4-18 from September 2019.
