Head of School - Boston Spa Learning job summary

Outstanding Leader required.
Due to our school leadership re-structure and re-organisation, a vacancy has arisen to lead our Boston Spa Learning campus. Boston Spa Learning is part of West Oaks School and provides education for 130 pupils aged 2-19 and is located on the outskirts of north Leeds.
We have high standards and high expectations and we always put the needs of our pupils first. We strive for Excellence for Everyone at West Oaks, whether it be pupil, parent, carer, staff or community member. Our school is a happy and healthy place to learn.
In the last 13 years, West Oaks has achieved four very positive Ofsted visits and earned National Autistic Society (NAS) accreditation in 2017, but we strive to achieve more.
The successful applicant will be able to build relationships with colleagues, parent/carers and pupils quickly and effectively. The person appointed will be an exemplary professional with the personal qualities to be an inspirational leader in our team.
There is a strong culture of excellence for everyone within our school and college community and we are looking for someone to enhance our unique school offer. The successful candidate will be committed to ensuring all our children achieve their potential.
Your continued professional development is important to us and we welcome applications from both mainstream and special primary and secondary applicants.
It is important for us to get this key appointment right as we look to appoint a leader who will work with the Principal and Head of Woodhouse Learning to lead, support and challenge Boston Spa colleagues as West Oaks enters another exciting and transformational phase of development.
A school visit is highly recommended. Our school website will give you a flavour of the school but if you would like to find out more, do come and visit us at our open evening on:
• Monday 23rd March from 4.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
Please email liz.lowes@westoaksschool.co.uk to book your place. Closing Date: Wednesday 1st April at 12 noon. Interviews: Friday 24th April 2020.
We are committed to safeguarding and to promoting the welfare of children and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. We promote diversity and want a workforce which reflects the population of Leeds.

West Oaks School is an all age 2-19 specialist provision catering for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties, severe learning difficulties, communication difficulties and those with a diagnosis of autism. The school operates over two locations. The most established provision is based in Boston Spa, a village on the North East outskirts of Leeds. Our second site is based in the inner city Meanwood area of Leeds and is known as Woodhouse Learning. This site opened in September 2015.

Our sites, Boston Spa Learning and Woodhouse Learning both embrace the same vision for educating children and young people. West Oaks is proud of its inclusive and innovative practice where every child and young person’s needs are met with no compromise. A place where we strive, alongside parents and carers, to achieve the very best outcomes. The learning needs of all our pupils are at the core of our thinking, with a positive culture driving excellence for everyone within our school and college community.

Our learners reflect the wide ethnic and cultural diversity of the city of Leeds.

We design and teach a broad and balanced curriculum, highly differentiated to incorporate the needs, interests and motivations of our pupils. We celebrate individualism at all levels and have a reputation for being ever-responsive to the needs of our pupils. We believe that pupils learn best and enjoy learning when they are actively engaged in practical experiences and are confident in established routines
