What skills and experience we're looking for

You must be able to demonstrate significant experience in special educational needs as well as knowledge and experience of working within the mainstream sector, and be able to demonstrate how this experience will influence working in a specialist setting.

You will need to be:

  • An inspirational leader who can motivate others.
  • Have knowledge and a clear understanding of how teachers teach and how pupils learn (there will be a small teaching commitment).
  • Passionate about teaching and learning.
  • Knowledgeable about the functionality of assessment and its application within a specialist setting.
  • Knowledgeable of accreditation that is reflective of our learners but aspirational in its implementation.

A confident and exciting trainer willing to deliver in school and beyond (this may require some working beyond the normal school hours if supporting off site professional development opportunities.

The East Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC) is a 2-19 generic special school with 426 pupils on roll. All our pupils have special learning needs and some have physical/ medical difficulties. The East SILC is a complex organisation which operates on a variety of sites to provide a range of outreach services across the city, including partnerships with primary and secondary providers, the city-wide Physical Difficulties and Medical Service including a moving and handling service, as well as the Medical Needs Teaching Service for Leeds.
