Head of School job summary
John Wycliffe Primary School (JWPS), part of Inspiring Primaries Academy Trust, is a community school at the heart of a growing market town in rural Leicestershire. As the town is growing, so is the school. We were delighted that JWPS was chosen for £1 million in expansion investment leading to the recently opened Whittle Wing learning block to lift potential capacity to 420 children over the coming years.
The school has a long tradition of nurture and inclusivity, placing the wellbeing of children at the heart of school life. This has been underlined by the recent partnership with our local authority to open a dedicated Foundation Stage and Key Stage One provision for children with autism.
This vacancy arises due to the promotion of the existing Head to a role in our Trust's central team and comes at an exciting time as we look to capitalise on the rapid progress this school has made in recent years.
If you are looking for the next step, even the first step, in your leadership career and want to work in an environment that inspires you to bring your brilliance to every interaction, every day then this is the role for you.
At John Wycliffe Primary School, we acknowledge and celebrate each child’s uniqueness and, as such, provide a nurturing environment where every child can translate that uniqueness into excellence in all that they do. This nurturing approach seeks to discover more about our children's individual passions, preferences, interests and practices both within and beyond school. We have a culture of high expectations in all aspects of school life, and it is these expectations that help all in our school community reach higher, every day.
The school's most recent OFSTED inspection found the school to be "good" in all areas. April 2023
The Head of School will demonstrate uncompromising expectations for all pupils and professionals in the school and a relentless desire for continuous improvement. They will be responsible for the practical implementation of the school improvement strategy and receive the support of the central school improvement team.
The Head of School will also be expected to fulfil the professional responsibilities of a Headteacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD). They will be supported by the central business team and school improvement team, meaning that they are able to focus directly on school improvement and giving our pupils the very best start to their education.
The successful candidate will have:
- Led significant school improvement initiatives which have improved pupil outcomes.
- A proven track record of successful leadership in a primary school setting.
- The ability to develop the workforce using evidence informed approaches.
- An unrelenting belief that all pupils can achieve high standards, whatever their background, life experiences or starting point.
- Possesses excellent communication skills with a firm commitment to working in partnership with children, staff, governors, families and the wider community.
- A passion for education and learning and ability to inspire and motivate the school community.
Prospective candidates are welcome to visit the school and informally discuss the role further with the Headteacher, Lee Evans. Please call the school office on Tel: 01455 553135 or email: l.evans@ipat.uk to arrange a mutually convenient time. Please note that our schools are closed for half term 17th February - 21st February.
