Head of School job summary

Head of School

Pickwick Academy Trust would like to recruit a permanent, full-time Head of School, based at Longford Primary School.

Salary range: L6 – L10, £53,380 - £58,959 per annum, depending on experience

Required to start: 1st January 2025

Longford Primary School

Longford is a small friendly village school, set in beautiful countryside, within a short distance of the city of Salisbury. Our school family is caring and committed to ensuring that all pupils flourish. Our small class sizes ensure that we know our children extremely well. We believe in the power of education to change lives for the better. At Longford this involves working in partnership with parents, nurturing the development of the whole child and instilling a love of life-long learning.

Pickwick Academy Trust is looking to appoint a determined and highly motivated leader as Head of School at Longford CofE Primary School.

The successful candidate will be an innovative leader, experienced teacher and strong team player who is committed to our Christian ethos and school vision 'To make our dreams come true'. The role also includes some teaching responsibility.

This is an excellent opportunity for a strong existing or aspirational school leader to take on an exciting new role as Head of School. The Head of School role in education means different things in different Trusts/schools - at Pickwick Academy Trust the Head of School is very much in charge of leading all aspects of the school; you will be responsible for setting the vision, developing the school improvement plan, setting and managing the budget, and reporting to governors. The role is the same as for the Headteachers in our Trust, but comes with the huge benefit of having an experienced Executive Headteacher working onsite alongside you for one day a week, every week, as well as being available throughout the week via telephone and email. If you’d like to lead a school but feel the challenges of Headship mean you’re not ready to do so on your own yet, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

To be successful you will need to:

Have a proven track record at senior leadership level of raising pupil standards; and be able to demonstrate this success at interview.

Be an outstanding leader with drive, energy and ambition, inspiring children and staff to strive for continuous improvement and outstanding outcomes for all.

Be able to recognise the school’s individual strengths and build upon its achievements and successes.

Be able to develop quickly as a credible leader and have the ability to foster professional, influential relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

Be able to demonstrate that you have worked collaboratively and are committed to work in partnership with fellow Heads in our other Trust schools.

The Headteacher will perform the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead and will therefore be responsible for Safeguarding duties across the school, including training, attending meetings, ensuring adherence to policies and providing support.

For further information about this opportunity, please contact James Passmore, CEO on 01249 717090 or via e-mail on jpassmore@pickwickacademytrust.co.uk

Visits to the school are welcomed. To arrange a visit please contact Frances Blackmore (Admin Officer) at admin@pickwickacademytrust.co.uk

Interested candidates are required to apply by 10.00am on Tuesday 8th October 2024.

Interviews and selection activities will be held on Wednesday 16th October 2024.

All shortlisted candidates will be subject to online searches as part of safer recruitment due diligence. Successful candidates will be subject to a range of pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS check and a barred list check if working in regulated activity.

At Pickwick Academy Trust we are committed to safeguarding children and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we require anyone joining our school to actively contribute to this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks along with other relevant employment checks.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020
