Head of Science job summary
About Birchwood High School
Birchwood High School is a welcoming and inclusive secondary school, offering eight forms of entry for students in Years 7 to 11, along with a thriving Sixth Form that provides a diverse range of A-Level and BTEC courses. With a strong all-ability ethos, we are committed to ensuring that every student is valued, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential. As a non-selective, co-educational school, we take pride in serving our local community and delivering a high-quality education that empowers young people for the future.
We are delighted to have been judged ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted (January 2025), reflecting our dedication to educational excellence.
Situated in Bishop’s Stortford, our school enjoys an attractive, open setting near the town centre and train station, with excellent transport links to London, Cambridge, and beyond.
We are seeking to appoint, for September 2025, a Head of Science.
The Science faculty at Birchwood is a team of exceptionally committed teachers and technicians. They work tirelessly to support not only the students but also each other. The successful applicant will no doubt have their own vision and strategies and they will take over a team of staff and students who are ready, willing and able to be led by them on the next part of their journey.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is currently a successful second in Science or Head of Biology / Chemistry / Physics to take the next step in their career. Equally this post would suit a more experienced Head of Science.
