Cambourne Village College is seeking to appoint a dynamic and inspiring Head of Science to lead our thriving and growing Science Department. This is an exciting opportunity to join a school with an outstanding reputation for teaching and learning, and to make a real impact as we expand and develop.

The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team of 14 science teachers and 3 science technicians in a department renowned for its high standards. As Head of Science, you will have the opportunity to inspire, motivate, and lead a team of professionals in a well-established, high-achieving department, with the support to develop and grow your own practice.

The department offers a variety of pathways at GCSE, including the AQA Trilogy Combined Science and AQA Separate Science routes, with some students taking Entry Level Science. We also offer BTEC Child Development at KS4. At A-Level the department offers a range of A-Level subjects including Biology, Chemistry Physics and Environmental science. We also promote extra-curricular activities such as a STEM Club, an Eco Club, and a Science-based Activities Week. Our students benefit from being part of a 1:1 iPad school, giving them access to personal devices to enhance their learning.

We opened as an academy under the Cam Academy Trust in September 2013, and we are proud of our aspirational and inclusive ethos. Our staff are highly motivated, our pupils are courteous and hardworking, and we have excellent facilities. Our new sixth form, which opened in September 2024, has a capacity for 175 students in each of Years 12 and 13, offering further opportunities for growth and development.

This is an exciting time to join Cambourne Village College as we continue to grow and evolve. The successful candidate will benefit from excellent professional development opportunities, both within the school and as part of the wider Cam Academy Trust. We also work closely with the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education and local SCITT providers, offering mentoring opportunities for trainee teachers and access to innovative teaching practices.

Cambourne Village College, an academy of The Cam Academy Trust, opened in brand new premises in September 2013 with just five forms of Year 7 pupils. Serving one of the fastest-growing communities in the UK, we now have more than 1300 pupils on roll, with major further expansion planned, including the opening of our new sixth form centre in September 2024.

The College has enjoyed remarkable success since opening, gaining an early Ofsted Outstanding rating along with designation as a Leading Edge School. Our pupils achieve excellent results in public examinations via a curriculum designed to offer maximum breadth and opportunity for all abilities. Our extra-curricular offer is also outstanding: annual musical drama performances, termly concerts, a wide range of competitive and recreational sporting activities, and many further clubs and events are on offer. In 2019, we were granted the International School Award by the British Council and are looking forward to re-launching our programme of international visits and exchanges this year.

We strive to be a welcoming and inclusive school for our pupils and also to fulfil our Village College ethos in serving the whole community: we support an active adult education programme and more than 30 local groups and organisations make use of the school’s facilities, out of hours. This unusual commitment to our local community was a key factor in our winning a prestigious Silver Award in the ‘Making a Difference’ category of the Pearson School of the Year celebrations in 2018.
