What skills and experience we're looking for

Duties and responsibilities

Supporting, and deputising in the absence of, the Director of SCITT specifically in the leadership, development and management of ITT course provision for trainees, the quality assurance and delivery of the SCITT programmes and the growth and sustainability of effective partnerships.

Leadership and Management

o Ensure the delivery of complex tasks, as required and directed, and effective management of all resources to ensure the smooth running of the SCITT

o Supporting the SCITTs readiness for its ITE Ofsted inspection

o Lead on quality assurance of provision to inform action planning and key priorities

o Manage the growth of new partnerships and effective engagement in the training model

o Provide management reports on the effectiveness of provision

o Monitor and support trainee progress

o Engage in research, and maintain a good understanding of contemporary developments in the initial teacher training

o Ensure all administrative duties as required by the programme are completed in a timely manner, or delegated effectively

o Undertake appropriate staff development

o To undertake any additional leadership duties as determined by the Director of SCITT.

Course and Provision Development

o Operational development of the programmes responding to local and national needs of ITT, including all policy changes.

o Deliver staff training and contribute to dedicated training sessions reflecting the needs of the SCITT

o Produce training manuals and handbooks

o Monitor and ensure the quality of programme provision and contribute to other aspects of quality assurance procedures, as directed, including teaching and learning developments.

Communications and Partnership Management

o Working closely with internal and external stakeholders to effectively manage multiple partnerships between schools and external academy trusts.

The successful candidate would report directly to the Director of Exceed SCITT while working in close collaboration with other secondary leadership colleagues across the organisation.

Due to expansion, Exceed Academies Trust is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Head of Secondary ITT to develop its secondary provision in order to meet the needs of its growing partnerships across the sector.

Exceed Academies Trust currently consists of eight primary academies, one all-through academy and a multi-site alternative provision Pupil Referral Unit, with a further 3 schools due to join our family in 2023. In addition, and alongside our Outstanding SCITT, we also have an Institute for Teaching as well as leading the Exceed Teaching School Hub. Exceed ITT has been successfully accredited for 2024, following the ITT Market Review.

Exceed SCITT is an Ofsted Outstanding Provider of Initial Teacher Education and as an accredited Provider can recommend for the Award of Qualified Teacher Status. The appointment of a Head of Secondary ITT reflects the expansion and diversification of our current provision. We have well established provision through School Direct and Provider-led routes in the Primary 3-7 and 5-11 age ranges, including 5-11 SEND. In addition, Exceed Academies Trust is an accredited training provider for the Level 6 Teaching Apprenticeship.

Exceed SCITT works with a growing number of ITT training providers offering unique and innovative programmes to suit all Primary focused trainees, including those with an emerging interest and ambition to work within SEND. The newly appointed Head of Secondary ITT will initially be based at our training campus at Holybrook Primary School, however the post offers opportunities for flexible working. The location of the campus enables partnership work both in Bradford and our training hub in Leeds.
