What skills and experience we're looking for

Your pathway from Middle Leader to Senior Leader

This is an ideal opportunity for a new or existing middle leader aspiring to senior leadership. We highly recommend that you come and look at the Sixth Form and talk to our students.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-qualified Head of Sixth Form who will share responsibility for the learning and personal development of all students and line manage our Sixth Form Tutor Team. The role plays a key part in the Inclusion Team ensuring that all students maximise their potential.

Knowledge of the UCAS system/higher-level apprenticeships and EPQ would be desirable but is not essential as training and support will be provided for the successful candidate. In addition, the ability to teach a Humanities subject or Maths could be an advantage.

Are you a team player and passionate about education and social mobility? Do you want to be a pivotal part of improving opportunities for students and increasing their learning and social experiences? Do you want to work in an environment which prioritises staff and student health and well-being? Then please apply now!

What the school offers its staff

Highcrest offers a comprehensive induction and an extensive personalised CPD plan for all staff. Our Heads of Department are offered a leadership development programme designed to prepare them emotionally and professionally for Senior Leadership. In addition, we are an outward-facing school with regard to liaising with neighbouring schools, having developed partnerships with PiXL and other networks to further enhance the professional experiences of our staff.

“Staff feel very well supported by senior leaders. According to staff, they feel valued because senior leaders are approachable…”.Ofsted Report February 2020

A thriving and friendly academy in the heart of the community, with staff recognition schemes, free gym and staff sports teams, to counter the free breakfast, “Friday Treats” and on-site coffee shop! We also offer the possibility of shared staff living accommodation and on-site parking.

Further details about the role

In 2022, The Highcrest Academy achieved the highest value-added score for 16–18 in the whole of the Wycombe area, with our students achieving, on average, +0.23 higher than their expected targets. Just three years ago, we moved into a brand-new, purpose-built Sixth Form Centre to cater for our growing cohort, with 160 currently on roll.

Our Ofsted Report 2020 says,“The school has a warm and welcoming atmosphere”and“Pupils at The Highcrest Academy happily live up to the school’s motto of ‘aspire and achieve’”.

All who work at the academy reinforce our six virtues linked to our motto (Ambition, Sensitivity, Purpose, Integrity, Resilience and Eloquence), helping us instil a culture of excellence that runs throughout every strand of our Academy.

Situated in the leafy Chilterns and within easy reach of Central London, Highcrest is culturally and academically diverse and is the only academy in Buckinghamshire that caters for students of ‘all abilities’. Some of our students need all your support, whilst others need to be challenged and stretched. Our inclusive and successful House system, a wide range of clubs, visits and trips helps to bring our whole school community together.

There are approximately 1,000 students on roll, including the Sixth Form. In addition to our purpose-built Sixth Form Centre, other recent additions to our site include a gym, a student dining area, an additional science lab anda coffee shop for both staff and Sixth Form students,

Commitment to safeguarding

The Highcrest Academy is fully committed to safeguarding children (policies on web). All members of staff are in a “regulated” role under the Vetting & Barring Scheme and have to be DBS cleared prior to employment.
