Rickmansworth School is judged to be an outstanding school (September 2023). We are an 11-18 heavily oversubscribed co-educational partially (35%) selective academy with around 1540 students on roll, increasing to around 1575 students over the next year. Academic results are strong at KS4 and KS5 with the vast majority of students securing their first choice university destinations.
The School is in a very strong, stable financial position with over £6M recently spent on school expansion including a new Sixth-form centre, performing arts theatres and an Innovation & Design Centre. About the Social Sciences Department
Psychology and Sociology are delivered solely in the Sixth Form and are popular subjects at A Level. The department follows the AQA A Level course in both subjects. The successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher of both A Level Psychology and Sociology whilst possessing excellent leadership skills to lead and manage other teachers in the department. The Head of Department will also coordinate and lead the School’s increasingly popular Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) programme.
The successful candidate will:
Be an outstanding teacher of Sociology and Psychology up to A Level
Teach students using a variety of teaching and learning strategies, ensuring that lessons are stimulating, differentiated and delivered at pace
Be responsible and accountable for the learning and progress of every student
Lead department planning for learning; this includes writing schemes of work or long-term plans and creating and sharing resources
Assess students’ achievements regularly according to School policy
Coordinate all aspects of the EPQ
Promote and deliver the taught element of the EPQ qualification to the students
Deliver assemblies to encourage and inform students to encourage uptake of EPQ
Supervise EPQ seminar groups
Work with students to select appropriate projects for the students to undertake
Manage the Project Q online portal and deliver any necessary training and updates
Lead the team of EPQ supervisors, ensuring they have the required training to successfully deliver the qualification
