Head of Social Sciences job summary

Required for September 2021

Wootton Academy Trust [WAT] consists of Wootton Upper School, which has 900 pupils in Years 9-11 and Kimberley 16-19 College, which in September 2021 will have 700 students in Years 12 and 13 studying Level 3 courses.

WAT is a happy, successful Trust and we are seeking to appoint someone to join our team and make a positive impact on students’ lives. Staff here are supportive, caring and committed to a collaborative approach to teaching and learning. As a new member of staff, you can expect a warm welcome and a wide range of CPD opportunities to develop your practice and career.

The position of Head of Social Sciences is a new one for our Trust because of the increase in popularity of social sciences at Kimberley College. Kimberley opened in 2013 in a state-of-the-art building that provides excellent resources for both staff and students. Currently, Psychology and Sociology are not taught at Wootton Upper School so our team of Sociology and Psychology teachers are based at Kimberley exclusively.

Initially, we wish to bring together the subjects of Psychology and Sociology into a “local area” to enable them to share great practice by working together as a single team. Over time we envisage the local area may expand to include other subjects. Our Head of Social Sciences will be an outstanding teacher able to teach A Level Psychology [we will have eight classes of A Level Psychology in September 2021 - five in Year 12 and three in Year 13; there is likely to be further expansion in September 2022]. There is the opportunity to teach some Sociology at A level also should the successful candidate be able to do so [we will have five classes of A Level Sociology in September 2021 and anticipate this growing to six classes in September 2022].

We do hope the attached Job Description, alongside the information on our website, inspires you to make an application and we look forward to welcoming successful applicants for interview.
